About us

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) provides access to primary care psychological therapy services through Hertfordshire Talking Therapies and Mid Essex Talking Therapies.

Hertfordshire Talking Therapies and Mid Essex Talking Therapies services are part of the NHS Talking Therapies, for anxiety and depression programme, offering free and confidential talking therapy and employment support for Hertfordshire and Mid Essex residents.

We use talking therapies to work with anxiety disorders and depression. Anxiety and depression are normal emotions which we all experience, but can sometimes become excessive or distressing. Conditions we treat include low mood, worry and sadness, stress and panic, and repetitive negative thoughts.

If any of these reflect what you’re experiencing, you can quickly refer yourself for assessment. Our team of experienced therapists will work with you to understand your challenges and put in place tools and techniques to manage difficult feelings.

We are available to anyone over the age of 16 (17 in Mid Essex) who is registered, or intending to be registered with a GP, in Hertfordshire or Mid Essex. In addition to our standard service, we have dedicated offerings delivered by clinicians with additional specialist training. The range of support can vary depending on availability in your local area.

Groups eligible for these services include older people, carers, those affected by a long-term physical health condition, and those in the perinatal period.

Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies Services

The Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies Services (APPTS) is a service development, quality improvement and accreditation network for services providing psychological therapy to adults in the UK.

Hertfordshire Talking Therapies was one of the first Talking Therapies services in the UK to achieve accreditation status with the Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies Services (APPTS) and was closely followed by Mid Essex Talking Therapies. As well as identifying and acknowledging services that have high standards, APPTS, a partnership between the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Centre for Quality Improvement and the British Psychological Society, provides a network through which best practice can be shared.

For our service users, this means you can be confident your treatment will be managed and delivered to the highest possible standards by professionally trained, fully qualified staff working within a responsive, effective and compassionate environment.
